Running, for approximately 8 miles, from
Llangollen to the current western terminus at
Carrog, this railway is the only operational
standard gauge heritage line in North Wales.
For most of its length it follows the course of the
River Dee affording excellent views of the

which also follows the route higher up the
There are many pleasant walks through the
splendid scenery starting and terminating at the
railway’s stations. Not surprisingly the line is the
most popular tourist attraction in the area. In this
all new pocket-sized album Mike Heath and
his son Karl have selected over 60 colour
photographs from their respective portfolios to
provide a stunning photographic journey along
the length of the line capturing the spirit of the
beautiful and dramatic scenery, wonderfully
restored country stations and variety of motive
power that combine to provide a wonderful day
out for both tourists and railway enthusiasts.
For well over 25 years Mike Heath
has enjoyed combining his hobbies of
photography and visiting preserved
railways all over Britain. In that time
he has amassed a vast collection of
stunning photographs covering all
aspects of the railways across all four
seasons, day and night.
From a very early age his younger
son Karl, now 23, has shared his
enthusiasm for both steam and
photography and has himself built
up an equally impressive portfolio.
Having already produced nine titles in
the Halsgrove Railway Series including
The Llangollen Railway, published in
2005 Mike has joined forces with his
son to produce this pocket-format
book portraying the only operational
heritage railway in North Wales.
