John Patchett is regarded as one of the country’s leading exponents in the art of pastel painting and his love for the vibrancy and freshness of the medium is a hallmark of his work.

While his subjects are now grounded in the landscapes of East Anglia, where he lives, John has travelled the world painting and exhibiting in locations including Australia, New Zealand and Japan. His recent paintings cover a wide range of subject matter: East Anglian and French landscapes, cityscapes, Broadland scenes, gardens, sunlit markets, street cafes, marine and coastal locations.

Away from East Anglia, John exhibits with the Pastel Society, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and at the Mall Galleries, London, where his work was awarded the prestigious ‘Guest Choice’ Prize. Recent recognition by the International Pastel Artist Magazine, America, of John Patchett as a ‘Master Pastelist’ reinforces the impact of his artwork on a global scale. His work is regularly featured in articles in Leisure Painter magazine.

Over a hundred superb paintings are featured in this book providing an overview of the scope and versatility of the artist’s work throughout his career, while an introductory essay by gallery owner Adrian Hill gives the reader a fascinating glimpse of the artist’s life from his art college years through to the present day.

Adrian Hill is the third generation of his family to run one of East Anglia’s most successful and well-known art galleries, Picturecraft in Holt. From here many artists have begun successful careers, returning again and again to exhibit at this premier location. Both Adrian and his father have also contributed to a number of publications helping to promote those whose work they exhibit and bringing to the public a deeper appreciation of the artist’s world.
