Born in Margate
in 1926, the son of a
window cleaner, Chris
drew obsessively from an
early age and after the
war he won a place at the
Royal College of Art.
then taught in the Fine Art,
Architecture, and Foundation departments,
specialising in figure drawing, initially at Thanet
School of Art and later at Canterbury College
of Art, while at the same time producing a
huge number of drawings and paintings.
His enormous energy, his optimism, and
his festive temperament inspired all those
he taught and his constant pursuit of
excellence underpinned his lifeís work. He
died suddenly in 1982.

Steven Alexander is a linguist by training
with a PhD in Spanish, but has drawn and
painted for more than forty years,
benefiting from his fatherís example and
advice. He is a member of the prestigious
Wapping Group of Artists, and can
regularly be found somewhere along the
Thames trying but failing yet again to
paint a minor masterpiece. He remains
determined to succeed one day.
