AUTHOR: John Hurst
John Hurst's Norfolk Coastal Colours
John Hurst's Norfolk Coastal Colours
  • Description
  • Related

John Hurst began painting the changing Norfolk Coast in 1972, when first exploring Cley Marshes and Blakeney Point on one of his many bird watching trips. When John was commissioned to paint the nearby Kelling Estate as an extension of his coastal studies, the stage was set for this unique and captivating publication.

Interest centred on John’s ability to capture the seasonal mood of North Norfolk and in his appreciation of the working people who co-exist with the natural environment in this beautiful part of Britain.

The thoughts and memories of many of the people he interviewed and painted are included in this book, along with images of landscapes, architecture and wildlife which puts their way of life in context. Their stories of adventure, success and hardship support this watercolour ‘snapshot in time’. These are ‘The Norfolk Coastal Colours’.

John Hurst was born in Lincolnshire in 1951 and after combining painting with a career in education, settled in North Norfolk as a professional watercolourist. He has enjoyed the support of many prominent patrons including the World Methodist Council who own a national collection of his watercolours, permanently exhibited in the Museum of World Methodism, North Carolina. John’s route has taken him from a simple rural childhood to teacher, gamekeeper, wildfowler, gardener and birdwatcher. All these occupations have given him the opportunity to observe and paint the everchanging world in which we live and to inspire others to do the same. He exhibits widely and through his creative work, supports local charities.
