The work of John Yardley has long been recognised as that of a master painter. He has the ability to sum up the scene before him and get it down on paper or canvas, as he says, ‘just as I sees it’, without wasting a single brush stroke.

John Yardley is, without doubt, one of the finest living painters in Britain today. His loose impressionistic style continues to be a source of inspiration for thousands of fellow painters, both professional and amateur, and his work is treasured in countless collections both at home and abroad.

In this publication John and his wife Brenda, working with author Steve Hall, have gathered together a delightful collection of his work for us all to enjoy. The majority of the images were created during the last two years and encompass the wide spectrum of painting subjects that we have come to expect from one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists. Subjects range from railway and nautical studies to intimate portrayals of family and friends and recollections of travels abroad. In addition, each picture is titled with its size and medium also noted.

The pictures are preceded by an account of the artist’s life together with many photographs of the artist at work demonstrating and painting. This is a true collectors’ publication, not only for the many thousands of followers of the artist but also for all who appreciate the work of a true professional.

Steve Hall was born in Bath and educated at Bath Technical School, the City of Bath College and Huddersfield College of Education. He spent much of his working life teaching building and architecture in Essex and Kent and was eventually an Assistant Principal of Gwent Tertiary College.

In 1994 Steve took early retirement and escaped into the world of watercolour painting where he was finally able to fulfil his childhood ambition of professionally using his drawing and painting skills. He now runs watercolour courses throughout the year at his Wiltshire home, across the country and in northern Spain. His paintings are exhibited at galleries in Wiltshire, Bristol and Norfolk. He is constantly in demand as a demonstrator and after dinner speaker.
