AUTHOR: David Barrow
  • Description

This historical novel follows four generations of the same family. It starts in 1848 in the Blackdown Hills, Devon, coming to a dramatic conclusion on D-Day 1944, back on the same Devon farm.

The story describes the downfall and hanging of one family member, emigration to America, work in the stockyards of Chicago, the early development of the flying industry in America, and the transport of thousands of GIs to England in preparation for the invasion of Europe.

Woven throughout the story you will experience the tragedies, passions, dramatic events and business ventures of the family during this century of great change.

David Barrow chronicles the fortunes of the Slaters, their triumphs, traumas, lives and loves in this sweeping novel of historical grandeur.

David Barrow was born in Surrey in 1935. After completing his education at Charterhouse and serving in the Royal Navy, he trained in agriculture, before eventually acquiring a farm in Dorset. After thirty years farming there, he and his family moved to Devon where he ran a tree nursery, before “retirement” and a new career as a writer. This is his second novel.
