AUTHOR: W. Maud Williams
The Somerset Murders
The Somerset Murders
  • Description

We are all interested in death, but death by violent means holds for us a particular fascination. In this book we are treated to five separate tales of crime and murder, drawn together through the lives of two principal characters, Susan Sanders, a westcountry university lecturer, and John Lindsay, a Detective Inspector of police. While quite different in background and in character, these two find themselves thrown together in a series of dramas in which death is a central theme. They also happen to be in love.

Set amid the rolling hills and rural communities of Somerset, the five stories contained in this book include many of the psychological elements that accompany real-life murders and the events surrounding their investigation.

Though set in more recent times, these tales are reminiscent of the great writers of the genre, Agatha Christie, and Dorothy L. Sayers, and readers will warm to classic descriptions of brutal and sudden death set against a genteel portrayal of rural England.

W.Maud Williams is a former teacher who at one time taught at SawstonVillage College, the first of the famous Village Colleges in Cambridgeshire. After her marriage she and her husband moved to the North of England for ten years where she became an elected member of the Lancaster City Council. She and her family later settled in Somerset and, with her children at school, she began teaching again. She was eventually made General Secretary of the County Division of the NUT until her retirement. She lives in the village of Wembdon, Somerset.
