Cheshire Moods
Cheshire Moods
  • Description

Cheshire is one of England’s best-kept secrets. The county is full of beauty and character, combining both scenic splendour and topographical diversity to produce an utterly awe-inspiring landscape. The rugged, sometimes harsh nature of Cheshire’s own slice of the Peak District National Park offers a heady mix of both solitude and serenity. These features provide the catalyst for, arguably, some of the most delightful walking scenery to be discovered anywhere in the northwest of England.

However the rolling peaks make up only a small part of this magnificent county and Cheshire’s most characteristic feature is perhaps the wide expanse of its renowned Plain. It is here that the black and white façades of Cheshire’s elaborate half-timbered and so-called ‘Magpie’ buildings compete for attention in a landscape punctuated by tall escarpments, undulating hills and chocolate box scenes.

Landmarks such as the mighty Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope and the twin castles of Beeston and Peckforton rise dramatically from the countryside offering astounding views of man’s influence upon its landscape.

Cheshire Moods is the result of one photographer’s ambition, which was to produce a book showcasing Cheshire at its very best. In it, landscape photographer Alan Novelli shows us atmospheric images of his home county from all of the four seasons, taken at every time of the day. His judicious use of light and timing are the essential ingredients in a book that inspires the heart and frees the mind.

Put simply – it is Cheshire at its very best.

Alan Novelli is a landscape photographer who lives in Sandiway, Cheshire. Married, with two young daughters, Alan has been photographing his home county of Cheshire for over ten years and has built up an enviable selection of images showcasing the county.

Much of Alan’s work appears within the county’s Cheshire Life magazine and he regularly supplies images to other clients including the Tourist Board, many local and national magazine titles, advertising agencies and several postcard and calendar companies. In this his widely awaited second book, Alan features classic and moody images from all over his native county.
