Portrait of Gower and the South Wales Coast
Portrait of Gower and the South Wales Coast
  • Description
  • Related

From the mudflats of the Severn Estuary to the rugged grandeur of the Pembrokeshire shoreline, South Wales boasts some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain.

Renowned photographer Geraint Tellem charts a stunning visual journey from the English border westwards along the shore of the Bristol Channel for some 200 miles to St Davidís Head in Pembroke-shire, and the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The entire stretch boasts a huge variety of coastal features and a particularly rich and diverse geological heritage. Several important towns and cities also form an integral part of the coastal landscape, including Cardiff, Newport, Port Talbot and Swansea.

Mid-way, and extending some 19 miles to the west of Swansea, lies the Gower peninsula. This was Britainís first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is famed for its magnificent beaches and precipitous limestone cliffs. In addition, moorland and marshland, medieval castles, churches and standing stones combine to make this one of the most unique and unexpectedly remote areas of Wales.

,,p> In over 140 spectacular colour images Geraint Tellem captures the grandeur and serenity of this infinitely various and precious landscape.

Geraint Tellem has had several other photographic books published including A Portrait of Cardiff for Halsgrove. Originally from Cefn Cribwr, near Bridgend, South Wales, Geraint currently lives in Surrey. He is married with two daughters.
