A Portrait of Blackpool & The Fylde
A Portrait of Blackpool & The Fylde
  • Description
  • Related

This is, above all, a region of contrasts. Blackpool is Britain’s biggest, brightest, probably brashest and possibly best seaside resort. Its Tower, Illuminations and its unique trams have a long history. Golden sands, donkey rides and fish and chips are all timeless ingredients; casinos and the Pleasure Beach bring it bang up to date.

With Blackpool at its heart, it’s easy to overlook everything else the region has to offer; quieter coastal towns like Lytham and Fleetwood offer sea breezes without Blackpool’s buzz, while just inland is the quiet green country of the Fylde with its peaceful villages and vast skies.

All this is explored by award-winning photographer and writer Jon Sparks, who lives on the borders of the Fylde, through 140 superb images and concise, informative and often witty captions.

Jon Sparks is an award-winning photographer and writer. He has lived in Lancaster for most of his life, and his photographic career was founded on local photography. He has subsequently worked on five continents, but still feels that North West England is a great place to live as well as an exciting one to photograph.

As well as several books of photography for Halsgrove, Jon has also produced guidebooks for walkers, climbers and cyclists, contributes to a range of magazines, and has published greetings cards, postcards and calendars.

ISBN 978 1 84114 601 0, hardback, 230x214mm, 144 pages. Published June 2007.
