The villages and hamlets within Leigh and Bransford are still at the centre of agricultural activity, although farming methods and working practices have changed over the years. Many farm buildings have been turned into dwellings, workshops or offices, which help to maintain rural vitality, but which change the nature of the rural community. Simultaneously, there has been a growth in leisure related businesses.
During the compilation of Malcolm Scott’s first title in this series, The Book of Leigh and Bransford, published by Halsgrove in 2002, far more material was collected than could be used. The great interest in and success of the first book led to the suggestion that a second book should be produced to include a further 300 pictures and reminiscences of the older inhabitants.
