The Book of St Day (pdf e-book)
The Book of St Day (pdf e-book)
  • Description
  • Related

Situated on the medieval pilgrims' route, the small Domesday township of St Day became a stopping place for those making their pilgramage to St Michael's Mount and in time a shrine was established at Tolgullow, which itself attracted pilgrims. This led to the creation of 'a Kinde of Market' around which a small community grew up.

The Book of St Day charts the complex story of the remarkable community from its humble beginnings, through its heady days at the centre of the world's copper-mining industry in the 1800s, to its endurance in the face of a collapsing industry and its final emergence as a close knit community determined to thrive, in times of both hardship and poverty, happiness and plenty.
