West Huntspill - A Millennium Celebration is a vital record for all who live in, or have a connection with the parish.
West Huntspill has been alluded to in many historical and literary works over the years. There have been
a number of works produced locally by such bodies as the WI, in 1953, and for specific occasions, such
as the school centenary in 1997.
The Parish Magazine, which reflects the pattern of village life, has also been
a sounding board for short historical articles.
The production of this book was begun as part of the Millennium Project, instigated by the Parish Council in
1998. It is not an exhaustive history. However, it has been a community effort. The basic historical record
has been provided by an authoritative amateur, well respected in historical and archaeological circles. Most
of the remaining contributions, including photographs and documents, have been provided by the members
of clubs, societies and associations within the parish, bodies that form the fabric of a village community.
Some members of extended village families have also been brave enough to put pen to paper to disclose their
family histories and recollections.
What has resulted must, of course, be only the tip of the iceberg of the historical data available. Much remains
unrecorded, but it is hoped that there will be much to enjoy in these pages.
