The Pixz Boot Up Series is fast becoming a phenomenon in local walks books that attract families and others to exploring the countryside in a leisurely way. It includes short walks for those living in or visiting popular areas of the country, written by those who know the area well. They provide a healthy hour or two of exercise, exploring parts of Britain’s countryside that the casual visitor might otherwise miss, pointing out interesting features along the way. These are perfect walks for families.

Philip Carter has made his name in walking books through his long involvement with the South West Coast Path Association.

In A Boot Up the River Teign he offers walkers fresh ideas and gives a different perspective to a familiar ramble. Whether following a broad river estuary, strolling through wooded valleys or following a long-abandoned canal, here is a convenient pocket-sized companion designed to add an extra dimension to the enjoyment of a leisurely walk.

Among the 10 walks included in this book are:

Bradley Woods, Newton Abbot • Hackney, near Kingsteignton •Teignbridge along the RiverTeign • Stover Lake, near Drum Bridges • BoveyTracey • Hisley Bridge, Lustleigh Cleave • Steps Bridge area near Dunsford • Teign Gorge near Drewsteignton.

Philip Carter is a Devonian by birth. After a working life mainly as a potter he sought further education. Having gained a degree with the Open University he obtained an MA in Local and Regional History at the University of Exeter. He has contributed articles to the Devon Historian and written a book about Newton Abbot on the history of that town. He has been involved with the South West Coast Path Association since its inception and is the author of a number of walking guides.
