Mike Page is without doubt the ‘Mr Aerial Photography’ of East Anglia. His bestselling
books and the regular appearance of his photographs in The Eastern Daily Press and
many other newspapers and magazines have made his a household name.
new volume – the third in a series of books depicting the Suffolk Coast – Mike has
made a personal selection of over 150 recently-taken photographs following the
Suffolk coast and its major rivers from the River Stour in the south to the county’s
northern boundary with Norfolk.
While much of Suffolk’s idyllic landscape appears unchanged over the centuries, as
many of the photographs show, its coastline is subject to dramatic and rapid transformation
at the mercy of the sea. In some instances photographs taken just a few
years apart reveal the extent and rapidity of change.
The contrast between the
county’s seemingly abiding landmarks, its coastal towns and villages, timeless
harbours, historic churches and stately houses, and the ravages of the everencroaching
sea is what makes this book so engrossing.
Anyone with an interest in the effects of sea-level rises upon our small island will
be gripped by these images, and for those living in Suffolk and its neighbouring
counties, this book will hold a particular fascination.
Gorleston-born, Mike began his working life as a boat builder but in 1973 in partnership
with his wife Gillian began a garage business at Strumpshaw, east of Norwich. He’s
now semi-retired which gives him more time to pursue his flying and photographic
interests. He has a considerable library of aerial and wildlife prints. In addition he
supplies newspapers with newsworthy pictures, has produced aerial photographs for
the Eastern Daily Press in a series of supplements, and recently has provided photographs used in large scale
highways development. His first book a Broads-eye view, produced in partnership with Pauline Young, was a huge success,
followed by a string of bestselling publications.
